A Day at School with THE WALL

I spent yesterday at school….working.  I arrived with shelf liner in hand, but soon realized I needed to move all my furniture back where it goes, otherwise there is no way I would be able to concentrate on the task at hand. Once the classroom was sort of put back together, I started with  THE WALL.  See, I have this wall that divides up my windows…it is also where the vents and heat/air are (I think at one time it was just windows).  THE WALL is made out of this weird material…painted ‘Historic Tan’ (insert frowny face) like everything else in the school and is a major source of grief for me.  It looks dirty and old.  I have tried decorating it.  I have tried cleaning it.  I have tried putting polka dots on it.  Nothing helped me feel better about THE WALL.  So I decided to try Shelf Liner (like I used on my yellow table…
see the post about that here)
I took pictures to show you how I apply the paper, and then I realized the directions are on the back of the paper (I just thought I was super smart and skilled! lol)

I went to TJ MAXX and found some brown patterned adhesive shelf liner and got to work.  And work.  And work.  I kid, it really didn’t take too long.  Luckily the air was working and I found the school ladder.  I plan on adding large polka dots or something to break up the brown pattern.  Surprisingly,  I only used one roll of the paper.  So then I decided to do something with the other roll. Check back tomorrow to find out what else I covered!! =)

  3. I have the same brand liner from tj's. Mine is pink with brown damask. I covered my file cabinet-which will be gone before the new year..I swear it! So I am going to cover a table with it! thanks for the idea!

  6. I always shop at Marshalls and TJ Maxx, but never think to be on the lookout for contact paper while I'm there. Looks like I'll have to stop by soon…

  12. I have a wall very similar to that one in my classroom except mine is divided in half with a black frame around the top and bottom with a bar in the middle and is made out of ugly green cork (think nasty green bulletin board, lol)! Glad to know I'm not the only one dealing with a WALL!

  15. My favorite part, so far, has been spending time with my awesome hubby. We are newlyweds, but he works weekends, so our QT is limited. It's been GREAT! grats on your blogiversary!

  16. I love it just as it is. If you add something it will look great, but if you leave it – it still looks wonderful! I was just in my room today rearranging and have this cabinet/shelf thing that has that horrible board with holes in in covering the back and the ugly back of it is facing the door. I was wondering what to cover it with… now I know! Thanks so much for the idea.

  26. I LOVE this idea… in my school we are ONLY allowed to use blue tape (and sometimes fun tack) to attach things to our walls. I'm wondering how the shelf liner would come off the wall at the end of the year after sitting up for 10 months. Had anyone tried this on bulletin boards or old chalk boards?

  28. Hi Ladies! My experience with this brand is that it peels off easily (as long as you are gentle) and leaves very little residue…I did a quick spray/wipe off of "GooGone" on a different table (once I removed the liner) and it was as good as new! =)

  33. Your room looks like a place I'd love to spend some time in as a kid/ grown-up visiting school! I love shelf liners…I have one that looks like wood that I used to cover all my lab tables, which were all full of gouge marks and inappropriate words carved into them. I slapped on some putty like I was repairing a hole in the wall, then put that down, and it made a world of difference. The kids l-o-v-e-d their "new" tables and how "fancy" they looked. I'm gonna have to up my curtain quota…. my last district didn't allow ANY cloth in the rooms, including furniture. So many possibilities… 🙂

  34. Love your ideas! I've used curtains to hide some things to. It made such a difference in my room! I've taken off shelf liner from some things that a former teacher had left. The kids had started peeling it! Never though of using it on a wall….hmmm….
